Lesson 7The Photo Gym
This week we will be exercising our creative muscles. Like all muscles the more we use it the stronger it gets. We need to be creatively fit as photographers, able to see things where others wouldn't. We also need to be technically competent and the best way to become competent is putting into practise what we have learned. How it works Every day for five days I will post a new photography challenge. I will give you a title or an idea and you have to shoot a selection of images around that theme. Upload at least one of your photographs to the group folder on Google photos. You can shoot one each day or leave it to the end and shoot all five at once. |
The Photo GymDay 1 |
The first of our challenges comes from a longer and well known project called "Alphabet Street" all you have to do for day one is "The letter W in the man made world." Have a look at the world around you and see what you can photograph that looks like a letter W. If possible it should be something man made that you have observed, not some things that you have arranged in the shape of a W. For inspiration see www.createsticksandstones.com ( just to make sure here are a few examples.)

Now you are all warmed up with yesterdays easy exercise are you ready for a bit of a stretch? Todays "exercise" is "Shadow Shapes" make of it what you will but remember its not a riddle to be solved but an exercise to flex your creative muscles so push yourself and go for it. Just shoot pictures with "Shapes and Shadows" in them.

The Photo GymDay 4 |
This Exercise is going to take you to the parts other beers can't reach. "Make some images that could be viewed either way up," ie. someone looking at the photograph might not know if its upside down or the right way up ( It may be easier to make abstract images rather than realistic figurative ones, like distorted reflections in water or glass windows )

The Photo GymDay 5 |
Well done we are on our final day of the Photo Gym. Todays "exercise" is an easy one but don't be lazy try and push yourself. "The letter O in nature" so it can't be anything man made it must be something natural. We have had some fantastic images so far and a lot of variety so keep up the good work. If you have not shot yours yet there is still time, but don't leave it all till the last minute
